INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
The current solar energy market environment is very
interesting and complex. Although it has existed for
decades in the United States, interest in solar
energy gained momentum in the early 1970’s when
the supply of oil was constricted. For the first time
our country was exposed to the ramifications of
relying exclusively on oil for energy. This led to more
interest from technologists and entrepreneurs, but
the developing solar market was vastly under-
funded and serious commercial and scientific
resources were never committed to develop solar
technologies. This resulted in a very slow rate of
innovation during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
During the early 2000’s we have seen many factors,
including environmental and security issues, that
have led to a dramatic shift in thought and interest in
the solar industry. This shift has resulted in a growth
in investment and technology. SunScience is ideally

The energy market is growing at a very rapid pace.
According to it’s 2009 Energy Outlook, the Energy
Information Administration projects that total energy
consumption will increase at an average of 1.7% or
41 Billion KwH per year in future years. When
viewed in these terms, this is a staggering growth
rate. As the U.S. population grows and trends
towards a society whose main activities, both in
work and play, rely more on electronic devices there
will continue to be an ever increasing need for cost
effective and environmentally friendly sources of
energy. An example of this is the growth and
interest in Electric Vehicles. The existing grid will be
stressed by an increase in consumption as more
EV’s come on-line.
Demand for energy is increasing in every corner of
the industrial world. The need for cost effective and
environmentally friendly energy has stimulated the
solar industry. Both the commercial and residential
markets have become thriving laboratories of new
ideas, concepts and products. The key to success
in the solar market is developing an esthetically
relevant form factor with the right technology
solution that enables a sound financial return on
investment.
